In his 230 fights as an amateur he collected a bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics, a gold at Beijing 2008 and a silver at London 2012. Multiple world, European, EU Championships and Mediterranean Games champion.
For his Beijing Gold he was awarded the title of Commendatore del Lavoro in 2008 by President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano.

He was Team Manager of the national teams of the Italian Boxing Federation, now Technical Director of the Fiamme Oro Sports Group.In June 2017 he was elected to the National Council of Coni, the first and only time for a boxer.Today a testimonial of the Italian Boxing Federation, he carries out the federal values in the different
social projects throughout Italy.
